What is an Athletic Trainer?
Athletic Trainers (ATs) are licensed healthcare professionals who work under the direction of a physician to prevent, evaluate, and treat injuries. They provide critical services including:
- Injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation
- Immediate emergency care, including spinal and cardiac emergencies
- Return-to-play evaluation and decision-making
- Sport-specific strength, flexibility, and conditioning programs
- Nutrition and injury-prevention education
- Communication and coordination with coaches, parents, and physicians
All MSMOC athletic trainers are certified, licensed in Mississippi, and highly experienced in youth and collegiate athletics. They serve as a trusted liaison between the athlete, family, and coach to ensure the athlete’s health and safety come first.

We provide direct access to expert orthopedic care with no referral required. Our clinics are located in Jackson, Madison, Flowood, Ruleville, Brookhaven, Yazoo City, Tupelo, and Oxford. Our providers specialize in both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options tailored to each athlete’s needs.
Community Involvement Year-Round In addition to school coverage, our athletic trainers also support community health fairs, regional events, and sports camps. We offer flexible coverage options for large-scale or one-day athletic events.
Free Saturday Sports Injury Clinics – Flowood and Oxford
Every fall, our Saturday morning sports injury clinics in Flowood and Oxford provide free walk-in evaluations and treatment for student-athletes. These clinics give athletes fast, convenient access to orthopedic experts during the peak of sports season—without the need for an appointment or referral.
Free Physicals Day
Each year, Mississippi Sports Medicine hosts Free Physicals Day—an annual event where our physicians and athletic trainers perform thousands of the most comprehensive pre-participation physicals in the state. These evaluations go beyond the basic checklist to help ensure athletes are physically prepared and medically cleared for the upcoming sports season. Trusted by coaches, schools, and families, our team is committed to the safety and success of every student-athlete.
